Better Homes & Gardens VANILLA FRENCH TOAST

I'm so excited to be guest posting over here at Restoration Redoux! Thank you Shanna for having me.  I wanted to share one of my all time favorite breakfast recipes with you all.  Hope you ♥ it!

This is a quick & easy breakfast that is Dee-lish!  Breakfast is a big deal around our house so I'm always on the lookout for great morning recipes and this one is so dang good that I had to share it with y'all!

I like to cook ours on an griddle because you can cook so many pieces at once so I begin by melting several pats of butter on my griddle so its all kinds of buttery goodness.  I try and keep my heat around 275° so the outside doesn't get too brown before the inside cooks.

Here's the easy 1 - 2 - 3:

ingredients
  • 4 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1 cup  half-and-half or light cream
  • 2 tablespoons  sugar
  • 2 teaspoons  vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon  ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon  ground nutmeg
  • 8 slices  dry white or whole wheat bread
  • 2 tablespoons  butter or vegetable oil
  •  Maple-flavored syrup
  •  Sliced bananas (optional)
  • VIA BHG

1.  In a bowl, beat eggs, half & half, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg.  Dip bread into your mixture, making sure to coat both sides.

2.  Cook your break until golden brown, turning them once.  Serve with real maple syrup and you'll be in heaven!

And if it's a cold morning like it is here...then load up the fire place while your toast is cooking.  I even had enough time to sweep off the back porch while my toast was finishing up on the griddle.

By this time, the aroma of the vanilla french toast & bacon fills the air and helps to draw all those kiddo's down for breakfast.  A warm fire doesn't hurt either!

  2. your french toast looks delish! thanks for sharing a new recipe, I so enjoy cooking and trying new ideas. Have to say, the one part of our OK house we miss the most is our wood stove...it just doesn't get cold enough here to justify one. I have to settle for the cable tv station that looks like a wood fire :) Enjoy your weekend!

  3. Clydia, this looks delicious! I think this may be on the menu, when my daughter comes home from college, in a couple of weeks. By then, it should be enough of a chill in the air to light the fireplace! Thanks so much for sharing this recipe!!
