A Pretty Pantry

Monday, August 23, 2010

Okay, so here's the deal with our pantry.  It really NEVER got finished.  We pretty much built our house ourselves and it was fun, we really enjoyed every aspect of the process, however with some unpredicted icy/snowy weather and three kids we kinda got off schedule lets say by about oh three months!  Not a good thing when you are paying interest per day!  Anywho, when it became "liveable" we moved in and the not so important things like the pantry took a backseat to life.

A couple of days ago I came across a pantry re-do that was super functional and thought, "Wow, this is what I need to do to ours!"  The bad thing is that I cannot for the life of me remember the name of the blog!  So just know that I copied this from some great gal out there and am loving her for posting her pantry re-do!

So embarrassing, but this is the before...

And here we are with it all cleaned out...

One thing the "inspiration pantry" had that I LOVED was beadboard wallpaper.  This sweet girl decided to stay up and help me get this wallpaper up so it could dry overnight, while the rest of the family decided we were nutso and went to bed!  Although by the next morning we had found that regardless of the work involved, wallpaper does not stick well to textured walls.  "Told ya so!" was basically what we heard the next morning.

The primer used ...

I painted the walls above and below the shelving with Behr Premium Plus Ultra in Dusty Olive and the shelves with a Behr creamy white that I already had on hand.  My crafty carpenter hubby, built these large lazy susan's for the corner to utilize this otherwise dead space.  The lazy susan's were built from small table tops and hardware purchased at Lowe's.  Sorry I didn't take individual pictures of these but you can see them installed in the after pic.

And here it is after...  Everything just feels so much better about our kitchen now.  I love it!

We basically did this in a day since the wallpaper was a bust.  The longest part was waiting for the paint to completely dry before packing everything back in.  We have some plans for the kitchen next but haven't completely decided on everything so stay tuned...

Thank you so much for stopping by for a visit!  I love receiving your comments.  It lets me know that you were here that way I can visit you back!

Also, don’t miss a single post – it’s easy to stay in touch!

  1. What a project! It looks great. Love those lazy susans and the door. My sister tired to put the beaded board wall paper on the ceiling in her bedroom. Lets just say it did not turn out to well. Gosh I need to clean out my pantry.

  2. Thanks Southern Queen Bee! I am so happy that we tackled that project. I have actually been cooking & baking more since we finished it. The kids & hubby are happy about that, but my jeans are in rebellion!

I haven't been on my blog much lately because we have been tackling projects around the house. Hope you'll check back soon to see what new things we've been up to! Hint: We painted our knotty alder cabinets! Yikes!
